Aneurin Bevan ( 1897 - 1960 ) was a fiery, Welsh Labour politician who rose from humble beginnings as a pit boy ( miner ) to become Minister of Health in the 1945 Labour government when he introduced the National Health Service. Acutely intelligent, he brought to the House of Commons a true spirit of radical fervour, frequently conducting a one-man campaign against Winston Churchill.
Written towards the end of WWII when the Tories under Churchill might have been favourite to win the General Election to be called in 1945, fire-brand socialist, Bevan launches an attack on the Tories.
