Hobbs, Jack
English cricketer who scored more first-class runs and centuries than any other player. An orthodox right-handed opening batsman, known as 'the Master', the first professional cricketer to be knighted (1953). A career record of 61,237 runs included 197 centuries, 98 of them scored after his 40th birthday.
