Crew members were forbidden to smoke or curse on set when she was present.

If serial queen Pearl White had a match, it was Allene Ray. A strikingly beautiful honey-blond, blue-eyed woman of 5' 3", Allene was everything Pearl was not. She was shy, quiet, introverted and discouraged familiarity with her coworkers. Ironically, she was extremely agile, and did all her own stunts. Those who worked with her could never remember the use of a double for her, even in really difficult or dangerous situations. Allene was a skilled horsewoman, and had been from a young age. While she was reserved and guarded, just about everyone who knew her liked her. Foul language, a common part of silent filmmaking (and filmmaking in general) was forbidden in her presence. Nobody seemed to mind, and all cooperated out of genuine respect for her. Rather than letting stardom go to her head, Allene was, according to those who knew her, natural and down-to-earth, without pretense. She enjoyed several years as a star in serials durring the silent era, but her popularity declined with the advent of sound. Her light voice was a nice one, but it did not record very well. Gracefully, Allene bowed out of pictures in 1930.
